Contrary to the DOS and Windows operating systems you can generally divide software in the Unix-environment into two different categories:
Software in the first category is commonly free of charge or available for a small fee (and also available as source code). Although the quality is often better than that of commerical products users cannot expect that support and maintenance of such products is guaranted.
Commerical programs in the Unix-marketplace are comparatively expensive (especially if you compare them to similar products running under Windows). Normally customers are individually supported and further development is guaranted.
softWorks connects the advantages of boths worlds through the use of the so so-called Registry-Concept . This is what is looks like:
You can get demo-versions of softWorks packages on various ftp-servers or directly from softWorks. Depending on the media a package contains code for a specific plattform (eg. Linux) or for a whole bunch of plattforms.
If one of these programs is started the registration-manager is called as the package is not yet licensed. You may now install a demo-license (see the chapter on 'The Registration-Manager'). Demo versions may be used for 30 days - there are no other restrictions.
By calling the registry-manager again a demo version can be made into a full version. For this to work you need a unique license code. If you send in your key we will give you the appropriate code. Again you will find the details in the chapter 'The Registry-Manager'. Full versions may be used without any limitations, even on multiple plattforms.
The main reason for registering is the fact that you will be continually informed of new developments and you also get announcements of new products from softWorks.
A maintenance contract will allow you to contact our hotline and give you email and WWW-Support. We will help you solve your problems faster and more efficiently.
These contracts will be made on an individuall base with our customers and therefore they may anything. Contact us right away if you need more details.
The program license is delivered together with every softWorks package. It is responsible for the registration and licensing of software.
Note the two different terms:
Additionally we like the personal contact with our customers -- a small contribution against anonymity on the internet.
The registration-manager is able to license all installed packages. Select the wanted package from the list of available packages:
The following fields are only important for the registration process. The programm tries to guess correct values for some of the fields. If they are incorrect please modify them manually.
The field Anotation allows you to send us a short notice.
The key for a given software package is generated automatically. It has to be entered only when you license a full version. (in this case you get both key and code from softWorks).
If you want to license a full version you need an appropriate code from softWorks. To create your code we need some information about you and the programm. You may send us this information through email, fax or plain old mail. Click on Mail to send us a mail message, click on Print to printout the message (eg for faxing).
If you register through electronic mail your data will be sent to softWorks via email. Your code will be returned by email also.
You may license the software through fax or surface mail. To do so the information we need is output to a printer or file.
If you have installed a fax-capable modem as a printer you can of course fax directly -- you find our complete address (including the fax-number) at the end of this document or in the menu Options/Address.
If you want to create a demo-version you only have to select the corresponding software package and click on the Demo-button. This automatically licenses the product. For a full license you have to enter both the key and the code before you can click on the Full-button.
Licencing a full version gives an error if key and code don't correspond or the wrong code was entered.
The only thing left is to wish you a lot of fun and success with your new software. If you have additional questions please contact us -- here is our address:
